In the previous post we discussed about why blogs are important and effective tools for insurance agents helping them create their own identity in the online world.
Now, we move one step further and start the blog. Anybody and everybody can have their own blog. And starting a blog has become as easy as registering for an email account.
What You Want To Blog About?
Before starting any Blog decide what you want to blog about. There are a lot of bloggers on the web already. If you want to attract readers, you need to establish your credibility about insurance. Pick a topic you are passionate about. Something that you have lots of experience with.
Find a Domain Name
A domain name is a name used to identify a particular website on the internet. Your site’s domain name is like your mailing address: it lets people know where to find you. A good example can be iioegroup.com. When you register a domain, you pay for the right to use that specific domain for a specific period of time.
There are lots of places to buy domains, but it’s better to go with a reputable company.
Decide: To Host or Not To Host
Once you have chosen your domain name you need to get blog hosting so that you can put your blog on the internet.
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web (www). Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server owned or leased for use by clients, as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center.
When it comes to starting a blog, your biggest decision will be whether you want to host the blog yourself, or use a free blogging service.
If you don’t want to buy a domain or pay monthly hosting fees, you can use free blogging websites like WordPress, Tumblr, Blogger etc.
WordPress.com offer same blogging platform as many people use with paid hosting but with limitations.
Such free blogging websites are very easy to understand and quick to use. If you don’t understand HTML and other technical aspects Blogger would be the easiest one for you. If you can understand HTML then you would be comfortable with WordPress

If you are signing up in WordPress, it gives you an option to either have a free blog or the paid ones (username only account). User-name only account is a premium account where your URL would not add a suffix wordpress.com.
